Saturday: The end of a challenge but the beginning of a new lifestyle.

At The Hotel. NSBE<3

1. Consumption:

Water: brushed teeth, (2) 8 min showers, flush (4), 7 minute shower, sweet tea, 2 glasses of water

Food: bacon, egg, potatoes and sausage, turkey sandwich, a bag of chips, fried chicken with mashed potatoes and corn bread and a chocolate cakeJ

Electricity: no TV or computer, charged phone for 10 minutes, lights on for a short amount of time when we were getting ready in the room.

Gasoline: none at all!

Money: $5 to use the gym and swim.

2. Reduction:

I cut back on everything over all and I am pretty happy about that. My food intake once again was kind of high but it was good and I regret nothing. I feel that since every other area was low then everything was balanced out. I did however talk to my friends about turning the lights off whenever they left the room or bathroom; I even told them the amount of time they should spend in the shower. They somewhat listened to me. haha

3. Sustainability:

I got lucky to be staying at a hotel and not having to use a lot of resources, but I think that I wouldn’t be able to maintain this at home.

4. Following:

I haven’t really seen how everyone “spread the word” but I hope that it encourages a change. I think that if we all changed a little in our everyday life it would make a huge impact on a global scale. I tried to encourage my friends and the people around me to be more mindful and it worked. I will continue to cut back on my everyday use of water, food, gas. electricity and money because i’ve seen that it makes a difference. It starts with one person to make a change im stepping up to the challenge. You Only Live Once so make the best out of it. LEGGO BLS!!!!

I was not able to make an update for Friday or Saturday.

Friday

At The Hotel. NSBE<3

1. Consumption:

Water: brushing teeth, face washing, 10 min shower, flush (3), 7 minute shower, orange juice and sweet tea (but not really it was nasty)

Food: bacon, egg and cheese on a plain bagel, turkey sandwich, Oreos, chips (1 bag), hot dog and fries, pizza (Late night snack)

Electricity: no TV or computer, charged phone for 20 minutes, lights on for a short amount of time when we were getting ready in the room.

Gasoline: none at all!

Money: $11 on food

2. Reduction:

i really could not cut back on food because it would have been unhealthy for me to do so. The hotel’s food was not great so i had to buy food from their restaurant. I was able to cut back on electrical usage because i was not in my hotel room at all!

3. Sustainability:

i think i did well based on the fact that i was at an hotel and tempted to use a lot of resources that i did not have to pay for.

4. Following:

i felt that people did the best they could based on their food intake. That was probably one of the hardest cut back, or at least for me.

I was not able to make an update for Friday or Saturday.

Thursday

Let me just start off by saying today was a awful day as far as saving on resources
1. Water: brushed teeth, 10 minute shower, flushed 4 times, washed hands, drank green tea, bottle of water
Food: bacon egg and cheese, salt fish and rice, chocolate covered strawberry
Electricity: I did not use the electricity much today, expect for the light and heat.
Gas: my father drove me to school, my mom picked me up from ashmont, I got a coach bus to Danvers
Money: =/ I spent a lot today, $60+ on food and clothes
2. I did not use the computer at all today or watch tv because I had no time for it. I used my light a lot for packing.
3. I think that today was not a good day overall because I used a lot of resources due to the fact that I am going away for 3 days. I hope to make up for this tomorrow since I am not at home.
4. Well while I’m proud of others for doing a good job today, I feel that I need to step my game up. I felt really guilty for spending as much money today and eating at much, which shows how this experiment is changing my point of view.

Wednesday

1. water: 1 bottle water, 7 minute showers, flushed 3 times, washed hands, brushed my teeth twice.

food: bagel,  school lunch, soup.

electricity: charged my phone while using my computer, turned off lights and TV while sleeping.

gasoline: took public transportation

Money: $2.50 for lunch, $1.50 for breakfast, $1.00 for water

2. i did not use the bathroom as much today because i did not drink a lot of liquid. this lowered my flush and hand washing time. since i took a long nap, i also cut back on my electrical usage.

3. I feel that today my use of water was much better, but i really do not think it will last. i will continue each day to try and cut back on my water intake but as far as my shower time, i believe 7 minutes is the best i can do.

4. i have done as much to cut back in certain areas and it seems like my actions are becoming the same everyday.  everyone did a good job with the whole waterless wednesday, but i was surprised that Rudi took a 25 minute shower(SMH), i think she can do much better with the amount of time spent in the shower. i will have to talk to her about it, and see if i can make her change her ways.

Tuesday

1.water: I took a 12 minute shower also because of powder puff. I flushed 4 times, and brushed my teeth for about 5 minutes two times today. I washed the dishes but I did not use a lot of water.
Food: ice coffee, water(1 bottle), and 1 cup of ice tea. I ate 2 bags of chips, and rice and a meat for dinner
Electricity: I turned off all my lights when I wasn’t using them, I unplugged my computer when I was finished. I only charged by iPhone and not my iPod. since it wasn’t really cold today, I asked my parents to turn off the heat and they did. I cooked rice today on the stove. I also flat ironed my hair for about 30 minutes.
Gas: my father drove me to school so that took a bit more gas than usually. I took the Mbta to get home.
Money: 2 bags of chips ($1.00), ice coffee($1.50)

2. I cut back to spending onTuesday as well because I wasn’t tempted to buy anything. I could maybe cut back on ice coffees to save money as well but that is on luxury that I can’t seem to give up. I’m doing well on electricity but I should have probably skipped on flat ironing my hair cause it will rain tomorrow(waste of time and energy)
3. I think that I could continue to cut back a lot on water, money and electrical usage because I now see that I don’t need them as much.
4. First I will say amazing video by Bnee for Vp:) It seems like people are doing just the little to get by. I feel that we don’t have to make a full turn around but we should put in more effort into living with a 3rd world state of mind.

Monday

1.  Consumption -

Water: two showers for 7 minutes, bushed my teeth twice, flushed about 5 times, washed the dishes

Food: bacon egg and cheese on a croissant, ice coffee, Coke Cola, Arizona Green tea, bottle of water

Electricity: same as yesterday, I charged up my iphone on my computer, I don’t know if that’s saving electricity but close enough. I turned off my lights whenever I left the room.

Gasoline: my dad drove me to forest hills, and I took the mbta for the rest of the day

$$Money$$ - I spent $1.50 on a ice coffee, $1.00 on sour watermelon

2. Reduction

I focused on not spending today which was very hard being that I work in a clothing store. Today I brought my own lunch to school so I did not have to spend money on school lunch. This was the only area I really tried to cut down on.

3.  Sustainability

I would continue to not spend my money on unnecessary things because I saw that I really did not need them.

4.  Following

Looking at my peers’ post, I’m seeing that some people are not really doing much to cut back. It also made me reflect on my own progress. I think that now that I understand what to do I will try harder to really cut back.

So it Begins: Sunday

 Consumption

Water: Today I took two 7 minutes showers, and watched my hands about 5 times throughout the day.

Food: Today I ate my usually Sunday meal, and plate of rice & peas, baked chicken, and salad. I also had a Kit Kat bar and a bag of chips. I drank a cup of Arizona green tea, and a can of soda.

Electricity: I listened to my iPod on the train ride to work. I also played my iPod while getting dressed. i did not use the computer until 9:00 to do homework. i turned the lights off whenever i  was leaving the room.

Gasoline (fossil fuels): my father drove me to and from Ashmont today, which is about a 10 minute drive both ways.

$$Money$$ : I spent $1.70 to get on the train, and $1.00 to buy a can of soda.

Reduction

Today I did not use my Facebook or Tumblr.  I tried to cut back on using my iPhone which meant only calling my father to pick me up and texting only 2 people about school related issues.  I cut back on my usage of water by not taking a long shower and also food consumption by not going back for seconds. Cutting back on my food intake was really challenging because I love to eat. :/

Sustainability

I feel that I can continue to cut my on my water usage by turning the water off while, brushing my teeth and soaping up. By turning the water off while performing these tasks I would be saving my parents a lot on the monthly bill and helping the environment so this will be a permanent action.
